Police officers were deployed at the entrance of Machakos County headquarters following a protest staged by comedian Sammy Kioko and a group of youths seeking an audience with the county’s Chief Officer for Finance.

The group reportedly marched to the county offices to present their concerns, but were met with a heavy police presence that restricted access to the premises.

Officers stood guard at the entrance as tensions rose, with the demonstrators insisting on being allowedto meet the finance official.

Witnesses said the youths chanted slogans and demanded accountability, claiming they had issues they wanted addressed by the county government, particularly regarding financial matters. However, they were unable to gain entry into the offices.

Police maintained order at the scene, preventing the group from accessing the building.

Authorities did not immediately disclose whether the protest had been authorised or whether any formal request for a meeting had been made in advance.

The presence of officers effectively blocked the protesters from proceeding further, forcing them to remain outside the county headquarters as they continued to voice their demands.

Sammy Kioko, who was among those leading the group, reportedly pushed for dialogue with the county leadership, stating that their intention was to seek answers and not to cause disruption.

The incident attracted attention from members of the public, with some gathering nearby to observe the unfolding events.

Despite the heightened tension, the situation remained largely calm, with no immediate reports of violence or arrests.

Officials from the county government did not publicly respond to the protest or indicate whether arrangements would be made to engage with the group.

It also remained unclear what specific grievances the demonstrators intended to present to the Chief Officer for Finance.

Observers noted that such protests highlight growing concerns among sections of the public over access to county officials and responsiveness to citizen issues.

They pointed out that peaceful engagement between leaders and residents is key to addressing grievances and maintaining public trust.

Police continued to monitor the situation to ensure that order was maintained and that the protest did not escalate into unrest.

Their presence underscored the sensitivity of demonstrations at government offices and the need to balance public expression with security considerations.

As the standoff persisted, the protesters maintained their position outside the county headquarters, hoping their concerns would be heard.

However, without direct engagement from county officials, the outcome of their demands remained uncertain.
