Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has announced plans to return to union leadership, using strong language and bold comparisons to defend his decision.

Speaking during a public address, Sossion likened himself to the biblical figure Moses, saying he has heard the cries of teachers and is ready to step in once again.

Sossion said many teachers across the countryare struggling and feel unheard, and that their concerns have pushed him to consider making a comeback.

He described the current situation as one that needs urgent attention, adding that he believes he still has a role to play in improving the welfare of educators.

“I am like Moses; I have heard the cries of my teachers in Egypt, and I will return,” he said. The statement, which quickly caught public attention, reflects his belief that teachers are going through a difficult period and need strong leadership to guide them.

At the same time, Sossion took aim at the current KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu, questioning his continued stay in office.

He argued that Oyuu has gone beyond the expected retirement age and should step aside to allow new leadership to take over.

Sossion said the union needs a leader who is active, energetic, and closely connected to the current challenges facing teachers.

He insisted that leadership should reflect the needs of today’s educators, not those of a past generation.

“I want to face a teacher under 60 at the ballot for the position of KNUT Secretary General.

Collins Oyuu is past retirement age and should leave the union. He cannot be speaking for his grandchildren,” Sossion stated.

His remarks have sparked mixed reactions among teachers and education stakeholders.

Some have welcomed his possible return, saying he has experience and understands the inner workings of the union.

Others, however, feel that the focus should be on building new leadership rather than revisiting past figures.

Sossion served as KNUT Secretary General for several years and was known for his strong and outspoken style.

During his time, he often engaged the government on issues affecting teachers, including salaries, working conditions, and education policies.

His latest comments suggest that he believes the union has lost its direction and needs to reconnect with its members.

He emphasized that his intention is to restore the voice of teachers and ensure their concerns are taken seriously.
