The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has formally disowned grassroots elections conducted in Bomet County, declaring the process unauthorised and legally invalid amid rising internal tensions following disputed party primaries in Emurua Dikirr Constituency.

In an official notice dated March 30, 2026, and signed by Director of Communication Nathaniel Mong’are, the party stated that it had not sanctioned any such exercise and warned members against participating in unsanctioned activities.

“We wish to notify all Party Members in Bomet County that the Party HAS NOT CALLED for any meeting to conduct Polling Centre Executive Committee Election as circulated,” the notice states.

UDA emphasised that all internal electoral processes must strictly follow the party’s constitution and established procedures.

It cautioned that any exercise carried out outside the official framework would be deemed null and void.

The party’s statement comes against the backdrop of growing unease within its ranks in Bomet County, particularly after contested primaries in Emurua Dikirr Constituency.

The disputes have exposed divisions among local leaders and supporters, raising concerns over the management of internal party affairs.

UDA officials said only duly authorised organs of the party have the mandate to call for elections or meetings, and any parallel processes risk undermining party unity and discipline.

Members were urged to disregard the purported grassroots polls and await official communication from the party headquarters.

The leadership further warned that individuals or groups found organising or participating in unauthorised elections could face disciplinary action in accordance with party rules.

It reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in all internal processes.

Political observers note that grassroots elections play a crucial role in shaping party structures at the local level, often influencing mobilisation and decision-making ahead of national contests.

Disruptions or disputes in such processes can have far-reaching implications for party cohesion.

In Bomet, the situation has drawn attention from both party members and leaders, with calls for clarity and consistency in the management of internal elections.

Some members have expressed frustration over conflicting information, while others have urged the leadership to address emerging grievances promptly.

UDA maintained that it is working to resolve the issues arising from the Emurua Dikirr primaries and to strengthen its internal mechanisms to prevent similar disputes in future.

The party underscored the importance of unity as it seeks to consolidate its support base.

“We urge all members to remain calm and to follow official communication channels. The party is committed to conducting its affairs in a transparent and orderly manner,” the notice added.
