29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 25-year-old girlfriend in Chepkitach village, Konoin, Bomet County.

Police said the suspect allegedly strangled the woman following a domestic dispute after she proposed ending their relationship.

The incident has shocked residents of the quiet village, with many expressing concern over rising cases of domestic violence.

According to preliminary reports, the couple had been living together prior to the incident.

It is alleged that an argument broke out between them after the woman expressed her intention to end the relationship, leading to a confrontation that turned fatal.

Authorities said the suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Officers who visited the scene described it as a tragic case of violence that could have been avoided.

The woman’s body was moved to a nearby mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Investigators are also gathering statements from witnesses and neighbours as part of efforts to piece together the events leading up to the incident.

Local leaders have condemned the killing, calling for justice for the victim and urging couples to seek peaceful ways of resolving conflicts.

They also appealed to residents to report cases of domestic disputes early to prevent escalation.

“This is a painful incident for the community. We urge people to handle disagreements responsibly and seek help where necessary instead of resorting to violence,” a local administrator said.

Police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice is served, warning that acts of violence will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.

They also encouraged members of the public to report any suspected cases of abuse or threats to authorities.

The incident has once again brought attention to the issue of gender-based violence, with calls for increased awareness and support systems for those at risk.

Community members have urged authorities and organisations to strengthen outreach programmes aimed at addressing domestic conflicts.

Residents described the couple as relatively private, noting that there had been no widely known reports of prior disputes.

However, investigators are looking into whether there may have been underlying issues that had not been reported.
