Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has declared that embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and other like-minded leaders will soon align with the opposition to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Monday, March 30, 2026, during a United Alternative Government rally in Makueni County, Wamalwa expressed confidence that internal divisions within ODM would ultimately work in favour of the opposition.

He said the emerging cracks in the party signal a shift in political alignments, with leaders dissatisfied with the current direction expected to join forces with opposition figures.

Wamalwa noted that the opposition is steadily consolidating support across the country, positioning itself as a formidable challenger in the next election cycle.

He argued that dissatisfaction within key political parties, including ODM, reflects a broader national mood that could reshape the political landscape.

“The signs are clear that leaders who believe in accountability and good governance will soon come together to form a strong alliance capable of challenging the current administration,” Wamalwa said.

He singled out Sifuna and other ODM leaders, suggesting that their recent positions and statements indicate a growing divergence from the party’s mainstream stance.

According to Wamalwa, such differences are likely to push them toward a broader opposition coalition.

Wamalwa further stated that the United Alternative Government movement is committed to bringing together leaders from across political divides who share a common vision for the country.

He said the coalition is focused on addressing key issues affecting Kenyans, including the cost of living, governance, and economic opportunities.

At the same time, he maintained that the opposition is not merely reacting to internal disputes within rival parties but is actively building a credible alternative for voters ahead of 2027.

“Our goal is to unite leaders and Kenyans who want change. We are building a movement that will offer solutions and restore hope to the country,” he added.

The DAP-K leader also urged supporters to remain steadfast and continue mobilising at the grassroots, saying the opposition’s strength lies in its ability to connect with ordinary citizens.

Political analysts say Wamalwa’s remarks point to ongoing realignments within Kenya’s political space as leaders begin positioning themselves for the next General Election.

The situation within ODM, in particular, has attracted attention, with differing views emerging on key national issues.

Despite the speculation, ODM has maintained that it remains united, even as internal debates continue.

However, Wamalwa insisted that the developments within the party are indicative of deeper divisions that could influence future alliances.
