Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sharply criticised the current administration, accusing it of allowing conflict of interest and corruption to take root at the expense of ordinary Kenyans struggling with daily challenges.

In a statement shared on X on Friday, April 10, 2026, Gachagua expressed concern that leadership driven by personal interests is distorting national development and sidelining the needs of citizens across the country.

He warned that such an approach risks widening inequality and undermining public confidence in government institutions.

“It is disheartening to observe that when a government is led by conflict of interest, development priorities are often skewed in favour of personal gain rather than the greater good of the public,” the statement reads.

Gachagua argued that when leaders prioritise their own interests, essential services and development programmes suffer, leaving many Kenyans without adequate support.

He said the impact is particularly severe for vulnerable groups who rely on government interventions to meet basic needs.

He further claimed that corruption continues to erode resources that should be directed towards improving livelihoods, including investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

According to him, the mismanagement of public funds has contributed to the rising cost of living and reduced access to critical services.

The former Deputy President also raised concerns about accountability, stating that failure to address corruption and conflict of interest weakens governance structures.

He emphasised the need for stronger oversight mechanisms to ensure that public resources are used for their intended purposes.

Gachagua called on leaders to uphold integrity and place the interests of the country above personal gain.

He said restoring public trust requires deliberate efforts to promote transparency and enforce the rule of law across all sectors.

He maintained that Kenyans deserve leadership that is responsive to their needs and committed to equitable development.

He urged those in power to reflect on their responsibilities and take corrective action to address the challenges facing the country.

The remarks add to the ongoing national conversation on governance and accountability, with various leaders and stakeholders raising concerns about the management of public affairs.

Observers note that such statements reflect growing public interest in how government decisions affect everyday life.
