Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Anne Nderitu has urged Kenyans to trust the electoral body and participate actively in the voting process, as questions continue to be raised over the credibility of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Nyeri on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Nderitu emphasized that elections are not the responsibility of the commission alone, but a collective national exercise owned by citizens.

“One thing that we have agreed is that the election  is not for IEBC alone. Election is for the people. It’s actually Kenyans who come out on election day to vote for their leaders,” she said.

She noted that the commission is committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and credibility in all stages of the electoral process.

According to her, efforts are ongoing to strengthen systems and safeguard the integrity of the vote.

Nderitu said public trust remains a key pillar in the success of any election, adding that voter participation plays a crucial role in determining leadership outcomes and strengthening democracy.

She called on Kenyans to register as voters, turn out in large numbers on election day, and have confidence in the processes being put in place by the commission.

She added that the IEBC is working to ensure that all procedures are conducted in an open and verifiable manner.

The commissioner further pointed out that electoral credibility is built through continuous engagement between the commission and the public.

She said the IEBC is committed to addressing concerns raised by citizens and stakeholders in order to improve future elections.

Her remarks come at a time when discussions around the preparedness of the electoral body for the 2027 polls have intensified, with various stakeholders calling for reforms and stronger safeguards to ensure a free and fair election.

Nderitu maintained that the commission is aware of the expectations placed upon it and is taking necessary steps to enhance efficiency and public confidence.

She stressed that elections are a cornerstone of democracy and must be handled with utmost care and responsibility.

She also encouraged civic education initiatives to ensure that voters are well informed about their rights and responsibilities during elections.

According to her, informed voters are essential in strengthening democratic processes.
