Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has warned Kenyans in several parts of the country to brace for moderate to heavy rainfall this weekend, from Friday, April 24 to Tuesday, April 28.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 24, Kenya Met said rains are expected in parts of Central Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, the Eastern lowlands, and the Coastal region.

In the Western, Rift Valley, and Lake Victoria Basin  regions, rainfall is projected in the counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, and Uasin Gishu.

Other affected counties include Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

According to the weatherman, downpours in these areas are expected to occur mainly in the afternoon, with rainfall ranging between 20 and 30 millimetres.

The rains are also likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Residents in the affected counties have been urged to remain vigilant due to the risk of flooding, which could lead to destruction of property and possible loss of life.

Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas.

In the central region, counties including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi are expected to receive moderate rainfall during the same period.

The advisory comes amid ongoing seasonal weather patterns that have seen increased rainfall in various parts of the country.

While the rains are expected to benefit agriculture in some regions, they also pose potential risks, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
