Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has condemned recent acts of lawlessness targeting businesses in the lakeside city, warning that the incidents could undermine investor confidence and economic stability.

In a statement posted on his Facebook account on Monday, April 13, 2026, Nyong’o said Kisumu remains a key investment hub and a gateway to the Lake Region Economic Bloc, but rising insecurity risks threatening that position.

“Kisumu remains a leading investment hub and gateway to the Lake Region Economic Bloc. However, recent acts of lawlessness threaten our progress, investor confidence, and community safety,” Nyong’o said.

The governor’s remarks come in the wake of a recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who sustained injuries during an incident in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. He was later airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

Nyong’o expressed concern that such incidents not only endanger lives but also send a negative signal to investors and businesses operating within the region.

He emphasised the need for swift and decisive action to restore order and reassure both residents and the business community.

He noted that Kisumu has, over the years, positioned itself as a strategic economic centre in western Kenya, attracting investment in sectors such as trade, transport, and tourism.

However, he warned that continued insecurity could reverse these gains if not urgently addressed.

The governor called on security agencies to intensify efforts to curb criminal activities and ensure those responsible for the recent incidents are brought to justice. He stressed that maintaining law and order is essential for sustaining economic growth and protecting livelihoods.

Nyong’o also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting suspicious activities.

He said community participation is crucial in supporting efforts to enhance security and prevent further incidents.

At the same time, he reassured investors that the county government remains committed to providing a conducive environment for business.

He said measures are being put in place, in collaboration with national security agencies, to strengthen safety and safeguard investments.

The governor further emphasised the importance of unity among leaders and stakeholders in addressing the situation.

He called for a collective approach to tackling insecurity, noting that political differences should not hinder efforts to ensure the safety of citizens and businesses.
