“We regret to inform the public that on 28th April 2026 at around 22:30 hours near Turners Club, an unknown female adult aged around 29 years was swept away by fast-moving rainwater following heavy rainfall,” the statement read in part.
According to the report, the victim drowned in a ditch after being carried away by the rushing water.
She was later retrieved by well-wishers, but was already deceased at the time of rescue.
Authorities responded to the incident, with the Duty Officer and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kasarani visiting the scene.
The area was subsequently processed and documented by Crime Scene Investigators from the same unit as part of standard procedure.
Mwaura noted that the incident underscores the dangers posed by the ongoing heavy rains, particularly in urban areas where drainage systems can easily become overwhelmed.
He urged members of the public to exercise caution, especially when moving through flooded sections, to avoid similar tragedies.
The update comes as several parts of the country continue to experience sustained rainfall, leading to flooding in low-lying areas and along major river basins.
The Tana River cascade, which comprises a series of dams, is among the regions being closely monitored due to rising water levels that could pose additional risks if not properly managed.
Emergency response teams remain on alert, with government agencies coordinating efforts to mitigate the impact of the floods.
Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant, follow official updates, and avoid crossing flooded roads or walking near swollen rivers and drainage channels.
The government has also reiterated the importance of community awareness and preparedness during the rainy season, noting that many flood-related incidents can be prevented through timely action and adherence to safety guidelines.
