The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced that its Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee (ENDRC) will handle disputes arising from its Phase II grassroots elections.

In a notice issued on Thursday, April 23, the party said the committee is prepared to receive and determine complaints from members, leaders, and aspirants linked to the elections scheduled for the same day.

“Notice is hereby given that the UDA Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee shall be available to receive, hear and determine all disputes relating to the Party grassroots elections,” the statement read.

The party directed that all electoral disputes must be filed within 24 hours following the declaration of results or nomination decisions.

This timeline, UDA said, is intended to ensure that any grievances are addressed promptly to avoid delays in the electoral process.

The ENDRC is mandated to oversee dispute resolution within the party, particularly during internal elections, which often attract heightened competition among aspirants.

By activating the committee, UDA aims to provide a structured and transparent mechanism for resolving disagreements that may arise during the grassroots polls.

Grassroots elections are a key component of the party’s internal structures, as they determine leadership at the local level and influence the broader organisation of the party ahead of national political activities.

As such, disputes related to nominations, voting procedures, or results can have significant implications if not handled efficiently.

The party emphasised that all complaints must be submitted in accordance with the established procedures and within the stipulated timelines.

Late submissions, it noted, may not be considered, underscoring the importance of timely action by aggrieved parties.

UDA’s decision to publicly outline the dispute resolution process is seen as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and maintain order during the elections.

Party officials have in the past faced challenges in managing disputes during internal polls, making the role of the ENDRC critical in ensuring credibility and fairness.

Members and aspirants have been urged to adhere to the party’s electoral guidelines and to use the designated channels when raising concerns.

The committee is expected to review each case on its merits and deliver determinations within a reasonable timeframe.
