President William Ruto has taken a combative stance against his political rivals, declaring that none of the leaders in the Opposition is sufficiently qualified to challenge him in the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a rally in Nyamira on Monday, April 13, 2026, as part of his development tour, the President said his opponents lack the political weight, vision, and track record required to mount a serious contest against him.

He framed his remarks as a direct response to growing political criticism from rival leaders positioning themselves ahead of the next election cycle.

“Do they really know me? If you weigh them, do you think there is anyone among them who is my size?” Ruto posed to the crowd, drawing cheers from supporters.

The President criticised Opposition figures for what he described as a lack of a clear and coherent agenda, arguing that credible political competition must be anchored on ideas, policies, and a demonstrable record of service.

He said leadership should not be reduced to rhetoric or public criticism without offering viable alternatives to the electorate.

Ruto maintained that his administration remains focused on delivering its development agenda, pointing to ongoing projects across the country as evidence of his government’s commitment to improving livelihoods.

He urged Kenyans to evaluate leaders based on performance and their ability to implement transformative programmes rather than political statements.

During the rally, the President highlighted key initiatives under his administration, noting that the government is prioritising infrastructure, economic empowerment, and social development programmes aimed at addressing the needs of ordinary citizens. He said these efforts distinguish his leadership from that of his critics.

At the same time, Ruto called on leaders to engage in issue-based politics, stressing that the country’s progress depends on constructive debate and accountability.

He cautioned against what he termed as divisive or personality-driven politics, which he said do little to address the challenges facing Kenyans.

The President’s remarks come at a time when political activity is gradually intensifying, with various leaders beginning to position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.

His comments are likely to draw responses from Opposition figures, who have in recent months stepped up criticism of government policies and performance.
