Three suspects arrested over the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi have pleaded not guilty to two charges before a Kisumu court.

The trio Eric Otieno, also known as “Dube,” Vincent Odhiambo, also known as “Tinga,” and Carlos Owiti, also known as “Kalonje” were arraigned before Resident Magistrate Daniel Chumba on Friday.

They denied charges of robbery with violence and stealing, contrary to the Penal Code.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons, together with others who are still at large, allegedly attacked the senator and stole valuables from him during an incident at an eatery in Kisumu on April 8.

The court heard that the attack involved a group of individuals who are said to have confronted the senator before robbing him of his belongings.

Investigators maintain that efforts are ongoing to trace additional suspects believed to have participated in the incident.

During the hearing, defence lawyer Ken Omollo urged the court to grant the suspects bail.

He argued that the accused persons had cooperated with investigators and were willing to comply with court directives if released.

However, the prosecution opposed the application, stating that investigations were still ongoing and that there was a need to apprehend other suspects linked to the alleged attack.

The prosecution further argued that releasing the accused at this stage could interfere with the investigation process.

After considering the submissions from both sides, the court granted each of the accused a bond of Ksh1 million.

The magistrate also set the matter for mention on May 6, 2026, for further directions and updates on the progress of the case.

The suspects will remain in custody if they fail to meet the bond terms set by the court.

The case is expected to proceed once investigations are completed and additional suspects, if any, are apprehended.
