This schedule appears to contradict earlier information released in April, which had indicated that the tournament would run from June 19 to July 18.
The uncertainty has left open key questions about which of the three host nations will stage the two most important fixtures of the continental showpiece, particularly the opening game and the final.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) said the decision on the venues for both matches is yet to be made and will be communicated later.
“CAF will announce the country that will host the opening match and the final in due course,” CAF said in a statement on Saturday, May 2.
The clarification comes at a time when preparations across the three East African nations are ongoing, with infrastructure upgrades, stadium readiness checks, and logistical planning already underway ahead of the historic tournament.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania were jointly awarded hosting rights for AFCON 2027, marking a major milestone for East African football.
The decision was seen as a significant boost for the region, which has long sought to stage a major continental football tournament.
In Kenya, attention has particularly focused on the Talanta Stadium project, which is among the flagship sports infrastructure developments intended to meet international standards.
The stadium has been widely expected to play a central role in the tournament, although its exact match allocation remains unclear.
Football stakeholders in the region have continued to express optimism that the three host nations will each get a fair share of key matches, including group-stage fixtures and knockout rounds.
However, the final allocation of the opening and closing matches is traditionally determined by CAF based on logistical, technical, and strategic considerations.
