Comedian Eric Omondi has issued a strong protest ultimatum over the rising cost of living, warning of renewed demonstrations if fuel prices are not reduced by Monday, May 18.

Speaking during a public address, Omondi criticised what he described as a growing disconnect between leaders and ordinary citizens, saying many Kenyans are struggling while those in leadership live in comfort and excess.

“Leaders are living in luxury and opulence while the cost of living for ordinary mwananchi is going up,” he said, adding that he would mobilise further action if fuel prices are not addressed within the set timeline.

Omondi argued that the cost of living had become unbearable for many households, pointing to increases in basic commodities and essential services.

“The cost of living in this country is extremely high. Nyanya imepanda, school fees imepanda, unga imepanda, mafuta imepanda. We must get to a point where we say enough is enough,” he stated.

He further accused the political leadership of failing to prioritise the welfare of ordinary citizens, contrasting the struggles of the public with what he termed as extravagant government spending.

“Kenyans are suffering na watu wanarenovate manyumba huko up top KSh 17 billion.

People are travelling in fuel guzzlers. Rais akipita hapa saa hii atapita na magari mengi. Watu wanakufa kwenye hospitali hawana,” Omondi lamented.

The comedian, who has in recent years positioned himself as a social justice activist, said his frustration reflects the sentiments of many Kenyans who feel overwhelmed by rising prices and economic pressure.

His remarks come at a time when fuel prices remain a major concern for households and businesses, with ripple effects being felt across transport, food, and education sectors.

Many Kenyans have continued to call for government intervention to stabilise prices and ease the cost burden.

Omondi’s statement is expected to reignite debate around economic inequality and government spending priorities, especially as citizens grapple with inflation and the rising cost of essential commodities.

He warned that failure to address the issue could lead to renewed protests, insisting that citizens must demand accountability and action from those in leadership.
