Samuel Atandi has extended an olive branch to Luo leaders he previously accused of pursuing a different political path, calling for renewed unity under the ODM leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a youth engagement forum at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, the Alego Usonga MP urged leaders from the Luo community to put aside political differences and focus on strengthening their collective bargaining power ahead of the next elections.

Atandi said the region stands to benefit more when its leaders speak with one voice, adding that internal divisions could weaken the community’s political influence at the national level.

He stressed the importance of unity within the Orange Democratic Movement, noting that the party has remained a key political vehicle for the region for many years.

The legislator’s remarks come amid growing political realignments and early succession politics taking shape across the country as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.

In recent months, some Luo politicians have appeared to chart independent political paths, prompting debate over the future direction of the region’s politics.

Atandi acknowledged that differences in opinion are normal in a democratic society but maintained that dialogue and consultation should take precedence over public confrontations.

He appealed to leaders to engage constructively and avoid actions that may create confusion among supporters.

Addressing the youth at the forum, the MP also encouraged young people to actively participate in governance and political discussions, saying they will play a critical role in shaping the country’s future.

He urged them to remain peaceful, informed, and focused on issue-based politics rather than divisive rhetoric.

The forum brought together youth leaders, students, and local stakeholders for discussions on leadership, governance, and economic opportunities for young people.

Participants also raised concerns about unemployment, access to education, and inclusion in national development programmes.

Atandi reiterated that ODM remains committed to championing the interests of ordinary Kenyans and called on supporters to remain loyal to the party as preparations for the next election cycle gather momentum.
