Leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi Movement, led by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, on Wednesday visited the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi, calling for institutional integrity within the police service.

In a statement shared on his official X account on May 6, 2026, Orengo accused the government of misusing law enforcement agencies to target political movements.

He claimed that the police were being deployed as a tool to suppress dissent, particularly against the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

“Today, alongside @HEBabuOwino Owino we visited the DCI Headquarters in Nairobi.

We refuse to let the police be used as a political hit squad to silence the Linda Mwananchi Movement,” Orengo said.

The visit by the two leaders comes amid rising political tensions, with sections of the opposition expressing concern over what they describe as the increasing politicisation of security agencies.

Orengo argued that such actions undermine public trust in institutions that are meant to operate independently and serve all citizens without bias.

He further warned that continued misuse of the police could erode constitutional safeguards.

According to the governor, there is a growing risk that the Constitution could be undermined if law enforcement agencies are perceived to be acting on behalf of political interests rather than upholding the rule of law.

Orengo expressed concern over what he termed as the transformation of the police into a “private militia,” suggesting that such a trend poses a threat to democratic governance.

He emphasised the need for accountability and adherence to constitutional principles in the operations of investigative and security bodies.

While details of the meeting at the DCI headquarters were not immediately disclosed, the leaders maintained that their visit was aimed at demanding transparency and reaffirming the importance of institutional independence.

They called on authorities to ensure that investigations and enforcement actions are conducted fairly and without political influence.

The Linda Mwananchi Movement has in recent months positioned itself as an advocate for governance reforms and citizen rights, often criticising government actions it deems inconsistent with constitutional values.

The latest developments are likely to intensify debate over the role of security agencies in the country’s political landscape.
