Former Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has issued a strong warning against political leaders who opt to pursue independent paths outside collective political arrangements, saying such actions amount to betrayal of the people’s will.

Muturi made the remarks while addressing political developments within the country, where leaders have increasinglybeen positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He argued that unity among political actors remains critical, especially at a time when Kenyans expect leaders to focus on shared national interests rather than individual ambitions.

According to him, any move by leaders to break away and pursue separate political agendas undermines the broader cause that citizens have collectively embraced.

“Any one of us that begins to chart their own course independently is a traitor to the people and the cause that Kenyans have adopted,” Muturi stated.

His comments come amid ongoing political realignments, with various leaders and formations reassessing their positions and alliances in preparation for the next election cycle.

Muturi emphasized that leadership should be guided by the expectations and aspirations of citizens, insisting that personal political interests must not override collective goals.

He further noted that unity is essential in ensuring stability and delivering on promises made to the electorate, adding that fragmentation within political ranks often weakens accountability and slows national progress.

The former CS also pointed out that Kenyans have consistently expressed their desire for leaders who prioritize national development over individual political survival.

His statement is likely to stir debate within political circles, especially among leaders who have recently hinted at forming new alliances or breaking away from existing coalitions.

Political analysts have observed that such remarks reflect growing tensions within the political landscape as parties and individuals position themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive election period.

Muturi’s comments add to a series of public statements by senior political figures urging cohesion within alliances, even as internal disagreements and competing ambitions continue to shape the political environment.
