Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna was among leaders who attended the burial ceremony of Senator Richard Onyonka’s mother in Kisii County, describing the event as a celebration of a life well lived.

Sifuna, who spoke during the solemn occasion, said they had travelled to Kisii County to join the family and friends in giving a send-off to the late matriarch, noting that the gathering reflected both grief and gratitude for the life she lived.

He said the ceremony brought together leaders, relatives, and members of the community who came to honour her memory and support the Onyonka family during their time of loss.

According to Sifuna, the send-off was not only a moment of mourning but also an opportunity to reflect on the legacy and impact of the deceased on her family and community.

“We are in Kisii County to send off Senator Onyonka’s mom and it’s a proper celebration of a life fully lived,” Sifuna said.

He was accompanied by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga, who also joined other leaders and mourners in paying their respects.

The two leaders stood in solidarity with the Onyonka family, joining prayers, tributes, and messages of comfort as the burial proceedings continued.

The event attracted a wide range of political leaders and community members, reflecting Senator Onyonka’s influence and connections across the political landscape.

Speakers at the ceremony highlighted the importance of family, service, and community values, describing the late matriarch as a respected figure whose life touched many.

The mood at the burial alternated between sorrow and celebration, as mourners shared memories while also acknowledging the impact of a life that many said was well lived and meaningful.

Sifuna’s remarks underscored the tone of the day, emphasizing dignity in farewell and unity among those gathered to support the bereaved family.

The leaders later joined the family at the graveside, where final prayers and rituals were conducted in accordance with family and cultural traditions.
