Police in Migori have arrested a suspect linked to a series of violent robberies in Migori and its surrounding areas, recovering a loaded Taurus revolver during the operation.

The arrest followed a carefully coordinated intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Migori Police Station, who set up an ambush along the Migori–Kawa main road near Migori Stadium in Nyasare Sub-Location.

According to police, the operation was based on actionable intelligence indicating that the suspect had been actively involved in armed robberies and was using a specific vehicle to move around undetected.

The officers kept watch at the location before intercepting a grey Toyota Succeed, registration number KDM 289F, which was suspected to be the suspect’s getaway vehicle.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a Taurus revolver hidden in a compartment near the gear lever. The firearm was loaded with seven rounds of ammunition and was reportedly ready for use.

Further inspection of the vehicle uncovered additional items, including two extra rounds of .22mm ammunition concealed in the driver’s side door handle, as well as a dagger believed to have been intended for use during criminal activities.

Police said the discovery pointed to a well-prepared suspect who was allegedly operating with intent to carry out further violent attacks before his arrest.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Justine Nyamete Jepter, was taken into custody and is currently being held at Migori Police Station as he undergoes processing ahead of his arraignment in court.

Authorities confirmed that both the recovered firearm and the impounded vehicle have been secured and will be produced as exhibits in court as investigations continue.

Police have praised the intelligence-led operation, noting that it played a crucial role in preventing what they believe could have been further criminal activity in the area.

They also reiterated their commitment to intensifying security operations in Migori and its environs to curb the rising cases of armed robbery and other violent crimes.
