In a statement issued after the nomination exercise, Gachagua praised party members and residents who participated in the primaries, describing the process as a reflection of democratic participation and the people’s right to choose their preferred leader.
“Congratulations Sammy Kamau Ngotho for winning the DCP PARTY nominations and securing the position to be the party parliamentary flag bearer in the forthcoming by-elections,” Gachagua stated.
The former Deputy President expressed confidence that the party would secure victory in the July 16, 2026 by-election, saying DCP had faith in both its candidate and the people of Olkalou.
“Our Party, DCP, has faith in you and the people of Olkalou that we shall get a win in the July 16th 2026 by-elections,” he said.
Gachagua also urged the party candidate to remain close to residents and engage them directly on the issues affecting the constituency.
“As we hand you the party certificate today, engage the people of Olkalou and listen to them on how they wish to be led. This is as articulated in our party philosophy,” he added.
The former Deputy President further commended residents for turning up in large numbers during the party primaries, saying the exercise demonstrated growing public interest in grassroots democracy and political participation.
“I salute the people of Olkalou for coming out to vote during the party primaries and choosing the leader they want to carry the flag of their party,” Gachagua stated.
The upcoming by-election is expected to attract significant political attention as parties seek to test their popularity and influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political observers say the contest could also provide an indication of shifting political dynamics in the Mt Kenya region, where various leaders continue to position themselves for future political battles.
Gachagua has in recent months intensified grassroots mobilisation activities following his fallout with sections of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
His involvement in party activities and local campaigns has been viewed as part of efforts to strengthen his political base and expand the influence of DCP ahead of future elections.
The nomination victory for Sammy Kamau Ngotho now sets the stage for what is expected to be a competitive campaign period leading up to the July polls.
Candidates are likely to focus on local development issues, economic concerns, infrastructure, and service delivery as they seek support from voters.
