Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Mabona has expressed concern over the security breach that occurred during President William Ruto’s public function in Kilifi County, warning that such incidents should not be taken lightly.

Her remarks followed a dramatic incident on Sunday, May 24, 2026, when a young man managed to break through security and briefly reached the podium as the President addressed a thanksgiving service held in honour of Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs.

The event, held at Mnagoni Primary School in Ganze constituency, was underway when the unexpected disruption occurred, causing a brief moment of panic among attendees and security personnel.

In the middle of his address, President William Ruto was forced to pause his speech as the young man moved quickly toward the stage area, bypassing initial security layers and drawing immediate attention from officers on duty.

Security personnel swiftly responded, moving in to restrain the individual before escorting him away from the podium area.

The situation was contained within moments, but it left visible tension at the venue as officers worked to restore order and ensure the safety of those present.

Witnesses reported confusion as the incident unfolded, with some attendees momentarily unsure of what was happening before security teams regained control of the situation.

Despite the interruption, the event later resumed under heightened vigilance.

During the commotion, President Ruto was heard reacting to the scene, saying, “Eiih! Wachana na huyu kijana!” as officers handled the situation and escorted the young man away.

Following the incident, MP Millie Mabona said the breach raised serious questions about security preparedness at high-level public events, especially those attended by the Head of State.

She noted that while public gatherings are meant to foster unity and engagement between leaders and citizens, they must also maintain strict safety protocols to prevent avoidable risks.

She stressed that the matter should not be dismissed lightly, urging security agencies to review how the individual managed to access a restricted area so close to the President.

According to her, such lapses could have serious consequences if not properly addressed.

The Kilifi incident has since sparked wider conversation around crowd control and presidential security arrangements during public functions, particularly in densely attended rural events where large crowds often gather to interact with national leaders.
