Speaking on the ongoing economic pressure facing households, the legislator said that the impact of high fuel prices is being felt across key sectors, including transport, food, and essential commodities, all of which continue to become more expensive on a daily basis.
He noted that transport costs have risen significantly due to the fuel price hikes, leading to higher fares for commuters and increased operational costs for businesses that rely heavily on logistics and mobility.
According to him, the ripple effect has also been felt in food prices, with traders and suppliers adjusting costs to reflect higher transportation expenses, ultimately passing the burden to consumers.
Babu said the situation has made it increasingly difficult for many families to manage basic needs, especially in urban areas where dependence on public transport and market-purchased food is high.
He urged leaders at all levels of government to prioritize the welfare of citizens and take urgent action to address the economic strain caused by rising fuel prices.
“Leaders must put wananchi first and stop burdening citizens with policies that deepen economic hardship,” he said.
The MP stressed that policy decisions should be guided by the lived realities of ordinary people, who are currently grappling with a high cost of living that continues to rise without sufficient relief measures.
He further called for more responsive interventions from the government to stabilize fuel prices or cushion vulnerable households from the impact of global and domestic economic pressures.
His remarks come at a time when fuel prices have become a major national concern, triggering debate among political leaders, transport operators, and citizens over the most effective way to manage the crisis.
Several leaders have called for reduced taxes on fuel or the introduction of subsidies to ease the burden on consumers, while others maintain that global market conditions remain the primary driver of the price increases.
