President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi following the death of his daughter, Anita Kendi Murungi.

In a heartfelt condolence message, the President expressed sympathy to the Murungi family, describing the loss as a painful tragedy that has left a deep void among family members, friends, and all those who knew her.

Ruto said the death of a child, especially one described as young, bright, and full of promise, is an unimaginable loss for any parent and family.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his family following the untimely passing of his daughter, Anita Kendi Murungi,” the President stated.

“The loss of a child, especially one so young, bright, and full of promise, is a profound tragedy that leaves an immeasurable void,” he added.

The Head of State also assured the family of the nation’s support and prayers during the difficult period of mourning, urging them to remain strong as they come to terms with the heartbreaking loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Murungi family during this difficult time. May they find strength in the support of family, friends, and all those mourning with them,” Ruto said.

News of Anita Kendi Murungi’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief and condolence messages from political leaders, friends, and Kenyans from different walks of life, many describing her passing as devastating and untimely.

Although the family has not publicly released detailed information surrounding her death, messages of comfort have continued to pour in as leaders across the political divide stand in solidarity with the former governor and his family.

Kiraitu Murungi remains one of Kenya’s most experienced political figures, having served in several senior government positions over the years, including as Meru governor, senator, cabinet minister, and long-serving legislator.

The tragedy has therefore drawn sympathy from both current and former leaders who have worked closely with him throughout his political career.

In many African societies, the loss of a child is often regarded as one of the most painful experiences a parent can endure.

Leaders who sent messages of comfort emphasised the importance of family unity, prayer, and emotional support during moments of grief.
