President William Ruto has defended the Affordable Housing Fund, describing it as one of the government’s most significant tools for mobilising local investment and financing development without increasing the country’s debt burden.

Speaking on the impact of the programme, the President said the fund has already generated substantial investment, demonstrating the potential of domestic resources to support large-scale national projects.

“That housing fund, has generated it was an event done by their own colleagues,” said the Cabinet Secretary.

The remarks come amid growing concern over cases of unrest in schools, with education stakeholders calling for stronger measures to promote discipline, safety, and peaceful conflict resolution among students.

Ogamba reiterated that the government views incidents of school unrest and indiscipline with utmost seriousness, particularly when they lead to the loss of life, injuries, or destruction of property.

He said schools are meant to provide safe environments where learners can pursue their education without fear of violence or disruption.

While acknowledging that students may experience challenges, frustrations, and grievances during their time in school, the Cabinet Secretary stressed that such concerns must be addressed through lawful and established channels.

“We acknowledge that learners, just like other people, may have grievances, challenges and issues but whatever they may be, they cannot be justification for causing death or destroying property. They must be addressed through appropriate channels,” he said.

The Education Ministry has consistently urged school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to embrace dialogue as a means of resolving disputes.

Officials maintain that open communication and effective guidance systems are essential in preventing conflicts from escalating into violence.

Ogamba further warned that the government will not tolerate acts of lawlessness, vandalism, or destruction within educational institutions.

He said those found responsible for criminal actions will be held accountable in accordance with the law.

“For this reason and as the government, we shall never support any acts of lawlessness, violence and vandalism in our schools,” he stated.

The Cabinet Secretary also extended his sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy and wished a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries.

He assured the public that the relevant authorities would thoroughly investigate the incident to establish the circumstances that led to the violence and ensure justice is served.
