Family members, close friends, and well-wishers gathered at Kisumu International Airport to receive the body of the late Beryl Achieng’, sister of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The arrival marked the beginning of final rites ahead of her burial scheduled for tomorrow at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo.

The atmosphere at the airport was somber, filled with expressions of grief and solidarity.

Loved ones were seen comforting one another as the body was escorted from the aircraft.

Community leaders, political figures, and residents from Bondo and surrounding areas also joined the mourners to pay tribute to the late Beryl, whose life had left a lasting impact on many.

Preparations for the burial have been underway for several days, with family and local authorities coordinating logistics to ensure a smooth and dignified ceremony.

The funeral will take place at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, a location with deep historical and cultural significance to the Odinga family and the local community.

Speaking briefly at the airport, a family representative described Beryl as a cherished sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched countless lives.

“Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her,” the spokesperson said, expressing gratitude for the support and prayers from well-wishers.

The funeral arrangements also follow traditions that reflect respect for both family and community values.

Elders and cultural leaders will conduct customary rites before the burial, while friends and relatives are expected to participate in prayers and remembrance ceremonies.

Security and health officials were present to ensure safety and smooth movement of attendees at the airport.

The event drew a mixture of emotional farewells, prayers, and moments of reflection as people prepared to accompany Beryl Achieng’ to her final resting place.
