The tragic incident happened on Christmas Day, a time when many families were gathered to celebrate.
According to police, the man reported himself to a nearby police station shortly after the incident and admitted that he had killed his wife following a heated argument.
He told officers that the disagreement started inside their house and later turned violent.
The suspect explained that in the heat of the moment, he picked up a mattock and attacked his wife, causing fatal injuries.
After realising what he had done, he left the house and walked straight to the police station, where he surrendered and confessed to the crime.
Police officers accompanied the suspect back to the scene, where they found the woman’s body lying in a pool of blood inside the house.
She had a deep cut on the head, believed to have been caused by the mattock. The weapon was recovered at the scene and secured as an exhibit.
The body was later moved to the mortuary, where it is being preserved as detectives prepare for a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the domestic dispute that led to the woman’s death.
In a separate incident in Makueni County, police also recovered the body of a missing lorry driver who had been reported missing by his family.
The body of Peter Kianga, aged 28, was found dumped by the roadside in Kasyelia area.
Kianga’s body was discovered in a thicket off the Masii road, several days after he went missing under unclear circumstances.
Residents alerted authorities after spotting the body, prompting police officers to rush to the scene.
Police said the body had visible injuries, raising suspicions that the young man may have been killed elsewhere before being dumped at the roadside.
His body was taken to the mortuary as investigations continue.
