With thousands of Kenyans travelling to different parts of the country for the December holidays, authorities say stricter measures are necessary to keep roads safe.
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, NTSA confirmed that its Nakuru team had launched a joint road compliance operation at Buffalo area along the Mai Mahiu–Suswa road.
The exercise is being carried out on the busy Nairobi–Narok highway in collaboration with officers from Mai Mahiu Police Station.
In a statement shared on its official X platform, NTSA said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws and promote safer road use.
The authority emphasized that the checks are focused on ensuring both drivers and vehicles meet all legal and safety requirements.
The message was accompanied by the hashtag UsalamaBarabarani, underscoring the campaign for safer roads.
The Nairobi–Narok highway is one of the country’s busiest routes during the holiday season.
It serves long-distance buses, matatus, tourists heading to Narok and Maasai Mara, as well as private motorists travelling upcountry.
Traffic along this corridor increases sharply in December, raising the risk of accidents if rules are ignored.
During the operation, officers are inspecting vehicles for roadworthiness, checking driving licenses, speed compliance, seat belt use, and ensuring public service vehicles are not overloaded.
NTSA officials say these checks are meant to discourage reckless driving, which often leads to fatal crashes during peak travel periods.
The authority noted that many accidents recorded during holidays are caused by speeding, dangerous overtaking, fatigue, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
NTSA has urged drivers to be patient, plan their journeys well, and observe traffic rules at all times.
