The party said its leadership visited Jirongo’s rural home to stand with his family during this difficult time and to offer condolences.
ODM Party Leader Dr. Oburu Oginga led the visit and described the late Jirongo as a committed public servant who worked tirelessly for the people.
He said Jirongo was known for speaking his mind without fear, even when his views were unpopular.
According to Dr. Oburu, this honesty and courage made Jirongo a respected leader both in Parliament and in public life.
Dr. Oburu recalled Jirongo’s time in Parliament, noting that he was a sharp and confident debater who made strong contributions to national discussions.
He said Jirongo’s role in shaping debates and policies left a lasting mark on the country.
The party leader added that Kenya had lost a leader who believed in open dialogue and service to the people.
During the visit, Dr. Oburu also addressed internal issues within the ODM party, especially in Kakamega County.
He said the party leadership would soon begin a process aimed at restoring harmony and ending ongoing wrangles among party members in the county.
He stressed that unity within the party was important for its strength and future success.
On national politics, Dr. Oburu said ODM is currently part of the broad-based government.
However, he made it clear that the party’s next steps ahead of the 2027 General Election would be decided by its official organs.
He explained that once the agreement between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), led by President William Ruto, comes to an end, the party will review its options.
