Cole Palmer could move to Manchester United if the club he grew up supporting decides to make a serious approach.

The England international is said to be unsettled at Chelsea, just two and a half years after completing his £42.5 million move from Manchester City.

Palmer has impressed many with his performances in west London, quickly becoming one of Chelsea’s most important players. However, away from the pitch, all is not settled.

Reports suggest the 23-year-old is struggling with life in the capital and deeply misses his family and close friends back home in Wythenshawe, Manchester.

The distance and the change in lifestyle are believed to be weighing heavily on him.

Despite signing a new and improved contract last year that ties him to Chelsea until 2033, Palmer is reportedly not closing the door on a possible exit.

According to reports, he would be willing to listen if Manchester United firm up their interest.

Chelsea, however, are expected to demand a massive fee. Palmer is seen as one of the club’s “untouchable” players, and letting him go would not be an easy decision.

A return to Manchester City appears unlikely. Although City is where Palmer developed as a young player, his chances were limited under Pep Guardiola, especially in Premier League matches.

That experience is believed to have shaped his thinking, and he is not keen on going back to a situation where regular first-team football is uncertain.

Manchester United’s interest makes sense on several levels. Jason Wilcox, the club’s current director of football, knows Palmer well from his time at City and has long admired his ability.

Wilcox played a key role in nurturing Palmer’s talent during his development years and is fully aware of what the midfielder can offer at the highest level.

United’s squad is already strong in attacking areas, particularly with left-footed players.

Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo have become important figures under interim manager Michael Carrick, while Patrick Dorgu is also growing into a serious option in a more advanced role.

Even so, Palmer’s versatility, creativity, and eye for goal could give United something extra.

There is also a longer-term picture to consider. Club captain Bruno Fernandes is under contract until next year, with the option of a one-year extension.

Palmer could be viewed as a future leader and creative force in midfield, someone capable of carrying the team forward in the years to come.
