Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) has appointed Engineer Francis Miano as the Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective January 16.

He takes over from Wilson Muthaura, who has proceeded on terminal leave after serving the agency in the top role.

In a statement, KTDA said the appointment is part of a planned leadership transition aimed at ensuring stability and continuity in the management of the organization.

The agency assured farmers, staff, and stakeholders that operations will continue normally under the new acting leadership.

Eng. Miano is a seasoned professional with wide experience in management and technical operations within the tea sector.

KTDA said his background in engineering and leadership positions within the organization makes him well suited to steer the agency during this transition period.

His appointment is expected to provide steady guidance as KTDA continues to address both local and international market challenges.

Wilson Muthaura, who has been serving as CEO, will now proceed on terminal leave ahead of his formal exit.

KTDA acknowledged his contribution to the agency, noting that his tenure was marked by efforts to strengthen corporate governance, improve efficiency, and protect the interests of small-scale tea farmers across the country.

During his time at the helm, Muthaura worked closely with factory directors and farmers to improve service delivery and enhance returns.

KTDA credited him for playing a key role in maintaining the agency’s stability during periods of market pressure and rising production costs.

In his new role, Eng. Miano is expected to focus on sustaining operational efficiency, supporting tea factories, and engaging with farmers to address their concerns.

KTDA said priority will be given to maintaining transparency, improving farmer earnings, and ensuring the agency remains competitive in the global tea market.
