In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the senator said the Maasai people see value in the two major political parties engaging early and openly about the country’s future.
He noted that such talks would help shape a stable and inclusive government once the current broad-based arrangement comes to an end.
Olekina emphasized that the Maa community commands significant political strength, with about 1.4 million votes.
According to him, this number gives the community a strong voice in national discussions and positions them as key partners rather than passive observers in political negotiations.
“I am certain the Maa Nation backs the ODM–UDA pre-election coalition talks—with our 1.4 million votes at the table, discussing, not being discussed,” the senator said.
He explained that the Maa community wants to be part of conversations that focus on development, fair representation, and long-term planning.
Olekina argued that when major parties choose dialogue over rivalry, it creates room for unity and practical solutions to challenges facing the country.
The senator added that cooperation between ODM and UDA could help reduce political tension and allow leaders to focus more on service delivery and economic growth.
He said many communities, including the Maasai, are more interested in development outcomes than constant political competition.
Olekina also pointed out that early talks give communities time to understand proposed agreements and ensure their interests are considered before elections.
He said this approach builds trust and avoids rushed decisions that often leave smaller communities feeling excluded.
