ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga has moved to clear the air on the party’s current political position, stating firmly that the Orange Democratic Movement is not part of the government.

Speaking to supporters, Oburu explained that while ODM is engaging with the government, this engagement should not be mistaken for a coalition or formal partnership.

According to Oburu, ODM is only involved in a broad-based arrangement meant to help stabilize the country and address key national issues.

He stressed that this kind of arrangement does not place the party inside government or bind it to government decisions.

In his words, ODM remains an independent political party with its own agenda and structures.

He said there has been growing confusion among the public, with some people claiming ODM joined the government through the back door.

Oburu dismissed these claims, saying no coalition agreement has been signed and no official deal exists between ODM and the ruling administration.

He added that ODM has not taken up government positions or shared power in the manner required under a coalition setup.

Oburu noted that the broad-based engagement was driven by the need for national dialogue and peace, especially at a time when the country is facing economic pressure and political tension.

He said ODM believes in putting the interests of Kenyans first, even if that means sitting at the table to discuss issues affecting ordinary citizens.

However, he made it clear that engaging in dialogue does not mean surrendering the party’s role as an opposition voice.

Oburu said ODM will continue to speak out against poor governance, corruption, and policies that hurt the public.

He emphasized that the party still holds the government accountable and will not shy away from criticizing it where necessary.
