The retailer has relaunched its branches at Unicity Mall along Thika Road, near Kenyatta University, and at Lang’ata Hyper, located off Lang’ata Road.
The two outlets are part of Uchumi’s gradual comeback strategy as the company focuses on stabilizing its business and serving customers once again.
The Unicity Mall outlet was reopened in late 2024 and mainly targets residents, students, and workers in the busy Thika Road corridor.
The store offers essential household goods, food items, and bakery services. Shoppers visiting the outlet have welcomed the return of Uchumi, noting that it provides more choice and convenience in the area.
On the other hand, the Lang’ata Hyper branch has been redesigned to operate as a mixed-use retail and commercial space. Besides Uchumi’s own retail operations, the premises now host several other tenants.
This approach allows the company to generate additional income while making better use of its large property along Lang’ata Road.
Uchumi officials say the reopening of the two branches is part of a wider reorganisation plan aimed at restoring confidence in the brand.
The company has in the past struggled with heavy debts, store closures, and supply disruptions, which forced it to scale down its operations across the country.
Industry observers see the move as a cautious but positive sign for the retailer.
They note that reopening a limited number of outlets allows Uchumi to test the market, manage costs, and rebuild relationships with suppliers and customers without overextending itself.
