Land Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has urged Kenyans not to fall for misleading information about the government’s health insurance plan.

She said the government has a very strong and well-planned programme under the State Health Fund (SHA) and the State Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which is meant to protect ordinary citizens.

Speaking in a public address, Wahome stressed that SHA is the only government-backed health insurance that ordinary people can depend on.

She said the programme is designed to help families access quality health services without being forced to pay large amounts of money out of their own pockets.

“Tusiwe watu wa kudanganywa. Tuna mpango mzuri sana wa SHA/SHIF,” Wahome said.

She warned that some political opponents are spreading false information to weaken public trust in the programme.

She described these voices as part of a planned effort to mislead the public.

Wahome added that critics of SHA/SHIF should not distract Kenyans from the benefits of the health insurance scheme.

She pointed out that those who are opposing the programme are themselves covered by private or better health insurance plans. This, she said, shows a clear double standard.

“SHA ndio bima pekee ya serikali ambayo raia wa kawaida wanaweza kutegemea,” she stated, highlighting the importance of the government fund for everyday citizens.

She said the programme is meant to be inclusive and to support those who cannot afford private health insurance.

The Cabinet Secretary also urged Kenyans to be careful and to verify information before believing or sharing it.

She encouraged citizens to rely on official government sources for accurate details about the programme.

Wahome said the government is committed to ensuring that the SHA/SHIF programme works effectively and reaches as many people as possible.

She said the initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare services and make them more affordable for everyone.
