The recommendations call for the arrest and presentation of county governors who fail to appear before the committee when summoned.
Speaking during a press briefing, IG Kanja said that the police are fully prepared to enforce the law and ensure that county governors comply with parliamentary procedures.
He emphasised that no one, including governors, is above the law and that accountability is a key principle in Kenya’s governance system.
“The police are ready to comply with the Senate PAC’s recommendations,” Kanja said. “Governors who ignore summons issued by the committee will be expected to appear before it.
We will ensure that legal processes are followed without fear or favour.”
The IG explained that the County Public Accounts Committee plays an important role in monitoring how county governments use public resources.
By summoning governors and other officials, the committee seeks to ensure transparency and proper management of county funds.
According to Kanja, ignoring such summons undermines accountability and sets a poor example for public service.
Kanja also stressed that the police would act within the law while enforcing the committee’s directives.
He noted that officers would respect legal procedures and the rights of those summoned.
The goal, he said, is to support the committee’s work and promote good governance at the county level.
The IG’s statement comes amid growing concerns that some county leaders have been avoiding accountability sessions.
The PAC has repeatedly summoned governors to explain how public funds are spent, particularly on projects funded by taxpayers.
Kanja said the police will work to ensure that these summonses are respected and that governors present themselves to answer questions.
According to the Inspector-General, the police will not act arbitrarily. He explained that any enforcement will be guided by law, and the aim is to encourage compliance rather than create conflict.
Kanja urged county leaders to cooperate voluntarily with the committee to avoid legal action and public criticism.
He added that the police support parliamentary oversight because it strengthens accountability and transparency.
Kanja said the enforcement of PAC recommendations is part of a broader effort to ensure that public resources are used responsibly and for the benefit of citizens.
The IG also reminded the public that law enforcement agencies are neutral and committed to upholding the law without bias.
He said the police will treat all county leaders equally, ensuring that everyone respects the summonses issued by the Senate PAC.
