Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has spoken out against renewed calls for street demonstrations, urging young people to stay focused on work, business, and building their future.

Speaking during a public engagement, the governor said she has seen messages from some leaders and groups encouraging Kenyans to prepare for protests, but made it clear that she does not support that direction.

“Niliona kuna wengine wamesema sasa wanajitayarisha kufanya maandamano… sisi tunawaambia, we are not boarding,” Wanga said.

She emphasized that her focus, and that of many young Kenyans, is on productivity rather than disruption.

According to her, the country needs calm, stability, and hard work, not constant political confrontations.

Governor Wanga said Kenyan youth are increasingly choosing entrepreneurship and self-employment instead of spending time in political fights.

She noted that across the country, young people are opening small businesses, engaging in farming, online work, and other hustles to earn a living.

In her view, this energy should be encouraged and supported, not diverted into street protests that often end in chaos and losses.

The Homa Bay governor acknowledged that many Kenyans are facing economic challenges, including high prices and limited job opportunities. However, she argued that demonstrations are not always the solution.

She said protests often disrupt businesses, destroy property, and scare away investors, making life even harder for ordinary citizens.

Wanga urged leaders to be responsible in their messaging, especially when addressing the youth.

She warned that encouraging protests without clear purpose or solutions can mislead young people and expose them to danger.

“We should not push our youth into situations that can harm them,” she said.

Instead, the governor called for constructive engagement with government and stakeholders.

She said leaders should sit down, talk, and find practical solutions to the problems affecting citizens.

According to Wanga, dialogue and development-oriented politics are more effective than street pressure.

She also highlighted county initiatives aimed at empowering young people in Homa Bay.

These include support for small and medium enterprises, access to training, and programmes that help youth turn their ideas into income-generating activities.
