Kisii Governor Simba Arati has insisted that any form of engagement or negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) must be anchored on mutual respect.

Speaking during a public address, Arati maintained that while dialogue between political parties is important, it should not come at the expense of dignity or the interests of the people he represents.

He emphasised that leaders must prioritise respect when dealing with one another, regardless of political differences.

“Hata kama tutanegotiate na UDA lazima tuheshimiane na wao. Eneo zetu zote wakiguza sisi tunabambuka,” Arati said.

His remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and discussions involving different parties across the country.

Arati, a vocal figure within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has often spoken out on matters affecting his region and the party’s position in national politics.

The governor’s statement appeared to send a strong message on the need for caution in any political engagement, warning against actions that could be perceived as undermining certain regions or their leadership.

He stressed that any attempts to interfere with areas considered politically aligned to his side would be firmly resisted.

Arati’s comments also reflect the broader concerns among some leaders about the nature of political negotiations and alliances.

While there has been growing talk of cooperation between different political formations, leaders have continued to express varying views on how such engagements should be handled.

He reiterated that respect between parties is key to fostering meaningful dialogue and ensuring that agreements, if reached, benefit all sides involved.

According to him, political engagements should not be driven by coercion or dominance, but rather by understanding and recognition of each party’s position.

The Kisii governor further noted that leaders have a responsibility to protect the interests of their constituents, adding that any form of negotiation must take into account the expectations of the people on the ground.

His remarks were received with reactions from the crowd, with some expressing support for his firm stance.

Others echoed the need for leaders to remain vigilant and safeguard their political space.

Arati has in the past been outspoken on issues of governance and political direction, often taking positions that resonate with his supporters.

His latest comments add to the ongoing discourse on how political parties should relate with each other in the current environment.

The governor did not provide details on any specific negotiations currently underway but made it clear that respect would remain a non-negotiable factor in any engagement involving his side.
