“I am so impressed and inspired by your speech. You should be confident because you are our SG,” Oburu told Omanyo.
He urged her not to worry about the ongoing discussions and legal processes surrounding the position.
“Ignore all other processes going on, people saying you are acting. As far as we are concerned, we gave you the power to work as our SG,” he added.
His remarks appeared to signal clear backing for Omanyo despite the unresolved legal dispute involving Sifuna.
At the same time, Oburu seemed to question Sifuna’s continued claim to the position, suggesting that the Nairobi senator has not been actively participating in important party activities.
According to him, effective leadership of the secretariat requires constant involvement in party programs and engagements.
The comments have further highlighted the growing internal tensions within ODM as leaders debate the future direction of the party’s leadership.
Supporters of Sifuna argue that he remains the legitimate secretary general, especially after recent legal developments surrounding the matter.
They say the dispute should be resolved through established legal and party structures rather than public declarations.
On the other hand, those backing Omanyo believe the party leadership has the authority to reorganize its structures in order to strengthen operations and ensure smooth management of the secretariat.
Political observers say the dispute reflects deeper divisions within the party as it prepares for upcoming political contests and internal reorganization.
The secretary general position plays a key role in running the party’s daily affairs, coordinating activities across the country, and managing communication between leaders and members.
