More than 30 Grade 4 pupils from Big Tree Comprehensive School were rushed to hospital on Thursday, March 12, after experiencing symptoms believed to be linked to food poisoning.

The incident caused concern among teachers and parents after several learners suddenly complained of stomach pain while at school.

According to reports, the situation began earlier in the day when one of the pupils brought two mangoes to school and decided to share them with classmates

The fruit was reportedly divided among several students during break time, a common practice among children who often share snacks while at school.

However, not long after eating the mangoes, several pupils started complaining of stomach aches.

Teachers quickly noticed that the number of affected learners was increasing as more students reported similar symptoms.

Some children also appeared weak and uncomfortable, raising fears that they could be suffering from food poisoning.

School authorities immediately took action and arranged for the pupils to be taken to Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention.

The learners were transported to the hospital where doctors and nurses began examining them and providing treatment.

Medical staff at the hospital are currently monitoring the pupils as they receive care.

Early assessments suggest the symptoms may have been caused by contaminated food, although investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the illness.

Health workers say that in cases of suspected food poisoning, patients are usually treated with medication to ease stomach pain and prevent dehydration. Most children recover quickly once they receive proper medical attention.

Teachers and school administrators have been working closely with health officials and parents since the incident occurred.

Many parents rushed to the hospital after receiving news that their children had been taken there for treatment.

Some parents expressed concern over the incident but also appreciated the quick response from the school that ensured the pupils received immediate medical help.

They said the fast action likely prevented the situation from becoming more serious.

Local education officials have also been informed about the incident.

Authorities are expected to review what happened and determine whether additional safety measures are needed to prevent similar cases in the future.

Food poisoning can occur when food or drinks are contaminated by harmful bacteria, chemicals, or other substances.

Sometimes contamination happens when food is not properly washed or when it has been exposed to substances that make it unsafe for consumption.

In school environments, children often share snacks without knowing whether the food is safe or where it came from.

Health experts often advise schools to educate learners about food safety and encourage them to avoid sharing food items that may not have been properly handled.

Despite the scare, medical officials remain hopeful that the affected pupils will recover quickly.

Most of the children were reported to be in stable condition while receiving treatment at the hospital.
