Raymond Omollo has said that the investments being made ahead of this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir County will bring long-term economic and social benefits to the region and its residents.

Speaking during preparations for the national event, the Interior Principal Secretary explained that the government is not only focusing on hosting the celebrations but also on improving infrastructure and services that will continue to benefit the community long after the event is over.

Madaraka Day, which is celebrated every year on June 1, marks the day Kenya attained internal self-rule from colonial administration.

The national celebrations are often held in different parts of the country, giving regions outside major cities an opportunity to host the important event.

This year, the celebrations are expected to take place in Wajir County, and the government has already begun making several improvements in the area to ensure the event is successfully organized.

Omollo noted that preparations involve upgrading infrastructure such as roads, public facilities, and other important services needed to host thousands of visitors expected to attend the celebrations.

According to him, these developments will remain in place even after the event ends, helping local residents and businesses.

He explained that such investments play a major role in opening up regions that have historically received less development compared to major urban centers.

By improving infrastructure and services, the government hopes to support economic growth and create more opportunities for local communities.

“Hosting national celebrations in regions like Wajir allows the government to invest in development projects that will continue to serve residents for many years,” Omollo said.

Among the key areas being addressed are road networks and public spaces where the celebrations will take place.

Improved roads will make it easier for residents to move around and transport goods, which can help boost trade and business activities in the area.

The Principal Secretary also highlighted the potential economic benefits for small businesses in Wajir during the event.

With thousands of visitors expected to travel to the county for the celebrations, local traders, hotel owners, and transport providers are likely to see increased business activity.

He said the government is also working closely with local leaders and community members to ensure the preparations benefit the wider population.

The aim is to ensure that the improvements made ahead of the national event support development in the region for many years to come.

Omollo added that such initiatives are part of the government’s broader plan to promote balanced development across the country.

By rotating national celebrations across different counties, the government can direct attention and resources to areas that may not frequently host major national events.
