Azimio la Umoja Coalition has made major changes to its leadership in Parliament after announcing the removal of Junet Mohamed as the coalition’s parliamentary group leader in the National Assembly of Kenya.

In a statement released on Monday, March 9, the coalition confirmed that Junet’s appointment had been terminated with immediate effect.

The decision was made during a meeting of coalition leaders as part of a wider leadership reorganization within the alliance.

Following the decision, the coalition announced that Caroli Omondi would take over the role and serve as the new leader of the Azimio parliamentary group in the National Assembly.

According to the statement, the change takes effect immediately.

“The meeting further resolved to terminate with immediate effect the appointment of Junet Mohamed as the Leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly and appointed Caroli Omondi to be the Leader of the Azimio Coalition Party Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly with immediate effect,” the statement read.

The announcement signals an important shift in the internal leadership of the coalition, which is one of the main political alliances in Kenya.

Leadership changes within parliamentary groups often influence how parties organize their members, communicate their positions, and coordinate activities in Parliament.

Junet Mohamed, who has served as a vocal member of the coalition in the National Assembly, previously played a key role in coordinating the party’s legislative agenda and representing the coalition during parliamentary debates.

As the parliamentary group leader, he was responsible for guiding Azimio lawmakers on the coalition’s position regarding various national issues and legislation discussed in Parliament.

However, the coalition did not give detailed reasons for the decision to replace him.

Political observers say such leadership adjustments are sometimes made to strengthen internal structures or improve coordination among members.

The newly appointed leader, Caroli Omondi, is the Member of Parliament for Suba South Constituency.

He is known for his experience in governance and policy discussions, and many within the coalition believe he will help guide the party’s agenda in Parliament.

His new role will involve organizing Azimio lawmakers, ensuring unity within the parliamentary team, and helping the coalition push forward its priorities in the National Assembly.

The leadership shake-up comes at a time when political parties in Kenya are actively reorganizing their internal structures as they prepare for upcoming legislative battles and political developments.

Such changes are not unusual in coalition politics, where parties often review leadership positions to adapt to shifting political strategies and priorities.

Despite the leadership transition, the coalition has emphasized the need for unity among its members.

Leaders within Azimio say their focus remains on representing the interests of their supporters and holding the government accountable through parliamentary processes.
