Group of young people from Meru County has officially launched a new political movement known as Sisi Ni Sifuna.

The initiative is aimed at supporting Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as a possible presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.

The youth leaders said the movement is people-driven and will focus on mobilizing support from the grassroots.

Speaking during the launch event in Meru, they described Sifuna as a bold and outspoken leader who has shown courage in national politics.

According to them, Kenya needs fresh leadership that listens to ordinary citizens, especially young people.

“Sisi Ni Sifuna” loosely means “We are Sifuna.” The slogan is meant to show unity and shared purpose among supporters.

Organizers explained that the movement is not just about one individual but about pushing for ideas they believe Sifuna represents accountability, equal opportunities, and inclusive leadership.

The group said they were moved by Sifuna’s strong voice in the Senate, where he has often spoken on matters affecting devolution, governance, and public accountability.

They believe his leadership style connects well with young voters who make up a large part of the country’s population.

During the event, several youth speakers took turns explaining why they feel it is time for a new generation of leaders to step forward.

They argued that many young Kenyans are struggling with unemployment, high cost of living, and limited access to opportunities.

According to them, these issues require leaders who understand their daily realities.

They also noted that the movement will not be limited to Meru County. Plans are underway to expand to other regions through meetings, community forums, and social media campaigns.

Organizers said they want to create a national conversation around leadership ahead of 2027.

However, they admitted that the journey will not be easy. Kenyan politics is often shaped by strong alliances and established political figures.

Even so, the youth insisted that grassroots energy can make a difference if well organized.

Political observers say it is still early to predict who will run in the 2027 presidential race. So far, Sifuna has not officially declared interest in the presidency.

But the launch of such a movement shows that some sections of the youth are already looking ahead and positioning leaders they believe can represent their hopes.
