Johnson Sakaja has assured Nairobi residents that the county government has mobilised all available resources and personnel to respond to the flooding that has affected several parts of the city following heavy rains.

Speaking as the downpour continued to cause disruption in different neighbourhoods, Sakaja said emergency teams had already been deployed to areas most affected by the floods.

He explained that the county government is working around the clock to manage the situation and help residents who may be at risk.

“We have fully mobilised all available resources and personnel to manage the situation,” the governor said.

He also urged residents to remain alert and take extra precautions as the rains continue to pound the city.

In the past few days, heavy rainfall has led to flooding in various parts of Nairobi, affecting roads, homes and businesses.

Some drainage systems have overflowed, while water has collected in low-lying areas, making movement difficult for motorists and pedestrians.

County emergency teams, including disaster response officers and city inspectors, have been deployed to monitor flood-prone areas and assist residents where necessary.

The governor said these teams are clearing blocked drainage systems, directing traffic in flooded areas and responding to emergency calls from the public.

Sakaja emphasised that the safety of residents remains the county’s top priority during this period.

He asked people living in areas known to flood easily to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary movement during heavy rainfall.

“We urge all residents to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety,” he said.

“If you find yourself in danger or need assistance, please make use of the emergency hotlines that have been provided.”

According to the governor, the emergency numbers will help authorities receive information quickly and send help to areas where it is most needed.

He encouraged members of the public to report blocked drainage, rising water levels or people who may be stranded due to flooding.

Several roads in the city have already experienced temporary disruption because of water collecting on the surface.

In some areas, vehicles have been forced to move slowly or use alternative routes to avoid flooded sections.

Sakaja also reminded residents not to attempt crossing flooded roads or rivers on foot or with vehicles, warning that strong water currents can easily sweep people away.

Parents were also advised to ensure children stay away from open drains and fast-moving water.

The county government is continuing to monitor the weather situation closely as rainfall is expected to persist in parts of the region.

Emergency teams will remain on standby to respond to any new incidents that may arise.
