Her body was discovered by her daughter-in-law, Jane Wanjiru Mbugi, who routinely checked on her every morning due to her advanced age.
On the day of the incident, Wanjiru went to the house as usual but was met with a scene that left her shaken.
She recounted that upon entering the house, she used her phone torch to check on her mother-in-law, only to find her lying motionless.
She said it quickly became apparent that something was wrong. The condition of the body suggested that the elderly woman had suffered serious injuries.
Wanjiru described the moment as distressing and said she immediately covered the body before raising the alarm to alert neighbours and other family members.
Her discovery triggered an outpouring of grief and concern within the village, with residents gathering at the home as news of the incident spread.
The deceased’s daughters Margaret Wawira, Regina Muthoni, and Sarah Njoki said they received news of their mother’s death while at their respective homes.
Regina Muthoni said she was in Kerugoya when she received the call, while another sister was in Kimicha at the time.
Family members expressed shock and disbelief at the circumstances surrounding their mother’s death.
They described her as a vulnerable elderly woman who required regular care and could not have defended herself against an attack.
Residents of Marura village have also voiced concern over security in the area, calling on authorities to conduct thorough investigations and bring those responsible to justice.
Some locals described the incident as one of the most disturbing cases they have witnessed in recent years.
Police are expected to launch investigations to establish what transpired, including confirming the cause of death and identifying those behind the incident.
