Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has issued a strong statement on accountability, saying that Kenyans will eventually learn the truth behind recent events and that those who act with impunity will be held responsible.

Speaking amid concerns over security and the conduct of some officers, Tuju emphasized that no individual is beyond scrutiny, regardless of their position or past role in public service.

He cautioned that authority should not be used to shield individuals from responsibility, noting that the rule of law applies equally to all.

“In the fullness of time, Kenyans will know the truth. Some of the police officers acting with impunity should know there is a term that applies to all of us.

Former CS, former President, former DCI director…You will be held to account,” he said.

Tuju’s remarks appeared to be directed at individuals within the security sector whom he accuses of overstepping their mandate.

He suggested that accountability mechanisms will eventually catch up with anyone found to have acted outside the law, regardless of their current or former status.

The former Cabinet Secretary’s comments come at a time when questions have been raised in various quarters about the conduct of some officers and the need for stronger oversight of security agencies.

His statement adds to ongoing public discourse on governance, transparency, and the enforcement of accountability within institutions.

Tuju stressed that public confidence in law enforcement depends on fairness and adherence to established procedures.

He implied that any perception of impunity undermines trust and risks eroding the credibility of institutions that are meant to protect citizens and uphold the law.

While he did not provide specific details about the incidents he was referring to, his remarks reflect broader concerns that have been expressed by members of the public and leaders who have called for greater professionalism within security agencies.

He maintained that time will reveal the truth behind the matters in question, suggesting that investigations and due process will ultimately bring clarity.

In his view, accountability is not optional and will apply uniformly to all individuals, regardless of their rank or previous office.
