Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker following an operation that led to the recovery of cannabis sativa packed for distribution in Nairobi.

The suspect, identified as Christian Ikechukwu Uzochukwu, is a 29-year-old Nigerian national believed to be linked to a wider narcotics trafficking network operating within the city.

According to investigators, the arrest followed intelligence-led operations that had placed the suspect under surveillance for suspected involvement in illegal drug activities.

Detectives said the investigations pointed to him as a key player in a network involved in the movement and distribution of narcotics within Nairobi.

Acting on the intelligence gathered, officers raided the suspect’s residence in the Kabarnet area along Ngong Road.

During the operation, detectives conducted a thorough search of the house, leading to the recovery of 33 sachets of cannabis sativa that had allegedly been neatly packaged and prepared for sale and distribution.

Authorities also recovered two passports bearing the suspect’s name, alongside several other items that are now being examined as part of ongoing investigations.

Investigators believe the seizure could help uncover more details about the operations of the suspected trafficking network, including possible links to other individuals involved in the trade.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody and is assisting detectives with investigations into the source of the narcotics and the intended distribution channels within the city.

Preliminary investigations have further revealed that the suspect may have been staying in the country illegally, adding another dimension to the case.

Immigration authorities are expected to work alongside detectives as investigations continue.

The arrest comes amid heightened efforts by security agencies to crack down on narcotics trafficking and organised criminal activities in Nairobi and other major towns.

Law enforcement agencies have in recent months intensified intelligence-driven operations targeting suspected drug dealers, traffickers and networks accused of distributing illegal substances within residential estates and entertainment areas.
