Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has criticised Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, accusing him of reacting defensively following recent scrutiny.

In a strongly worded statement, Wahome claimed that Kang’ata had made multiple media appearances within a short span of time, suggesting he was under pressure.

“In less than 24 hours you have made three media appearances maybe more,” she said.

She went on to allege that the governor’s actions were driven by panic after being exposed, describing the situation as one where accountability was catching up with him.

“You have panicked because you have been exposed. Someone called it hypocrisy catching up with you,” Wahome added.

The Cabinet Secretary further dismissed any suggestion that Kang’ata had stepped away from the political scene, arguing instead that he had merely been absent.

She criticised what she described as unnecessary theatrics, urging him to focus on substance rather than public displays.

“You have not left. You have been absent. So save us the drama and see you ahead,” she said.

The remarks highlight escalating tensions between political leaders, as public exchanges become increasingly direct.

Wahome’s comments come at a time when Kang’ata has been actively engaging the media, addressing a range of political issues and responding to criticism.

Observers note that such exchanges reflect the growing intensity of political discourse as leaders position themselves ahead of future contests.

Increased media visibility often serves as a platform for leaders to clarify their positions, but it can also invite criticism from opponents.

Kang’ata’s recent appearances have drawn mixed reactions, with supporters arguing that he is addressing key issues, while critics view the engagements as a response to mounting pressure.

Wahome’s statement adds to the ongoing debate surrounding his public conduct.

The exchange underscores broader dynamics within the political space, where leaders are increasingly using public platforms to challenge each other’s actions and statements.

It also highlights the role of political messaging in shaping public perception.

While Wahome did not elaborate on the specific issues she believes Kang’ata has been exposed over, her remarks suggest underlying disagreements that may continue to play out in the public domain.
