The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has unveiled a mobilisation strategy that includes nationwide candidate scouting and the activation of party structures in universities and colleges ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a resolution made on Monday, May 4, the party directed its secretariat to deploy regional teams across the country to identify and recruit aspirants willing to contest elective positions on the ODM ticket.

The initiative is expected to cover all levels of leadership, from grassroots positions to national offices.

The move is aimed at streamlining the party’s candidate selection process and strengthening its presence beyond traditional strongholds.

ODM officials say the strategy will help the party build a broader national outlook by attracting leaders from diverse regions.

According to the resolution, the recruitment exercise will focus on identifying individuals who align with the party’s values and are capable of mounting competitive campaigns.

The regional teams are expected to work closely with local party officials to ensure that the process is inclusive and well-coordinated.

At the same time, ODM announced plans to activate party chapters in all colleges and universities across the country.

The party said the initiative is intended to strengthen its engagement with young people, who form a significant portion of the electorate.

In addition, the party revealed plans to build closer links with what it described as “progressive youth organisations” involved in sectoral and civic activities.

The approach is expected to expand ODM’s reach among young professionals, students and community-based groups.

Party officials noted that engaging the youth is a key priority as the country moves closer to the next general election.

By establishing a presence in institutions of higher learning, ODM aims to nurture future leaders and encourage greater political participation among young people.

The strategy reflects a broader effort by the party to reorganise and position itself for upcoming political contests.

With early preparations already underway, ODM is seeking to strengthen its structures and ensure it remains competitive across the country.

Political observers say the focus on candidate scouting and youth mobilisation could play a significant role in shaping the party’s performance in 2027.

Expanding its footprint in universities and colleges may also help ODM tap into new ideas and build a more dynamic support base.
