Orange Democratic Movement Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday visited Landed Mwiyogo Senior School in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County, where he interacted with students and teachers before attending the funeral service of Annah Ndung’u, the mother of former Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega.

Sifuna said the visit to the school gave him an opportunity to engage learners and education stakeholders on matters affecting young people and the future of the country.

The Nairobi senator noted that conversations with students remain important in shaping leadership and inspiring the next generation.

“Took time to speak with the students and teachers,” Sifuna said in a brief statement shared after the visit.

The senator later joined several political leaders at the funeral ceremony held in Kieni Constituency to mourn Annah Ndung’u, whose death has drawn condolences from leaders across the political divide.

According to Sifuna, the delegation attending the burial service included Majimbo Kalasinga, Godfrey Osotsi and political commentator Pauline Njoroge.

The leaders were representing the Linda Mwananchi movement during the event.

“Our team is here to stand with the family during this difficult moment,” Sifuna stated.

The funeral service brought together political leaders, family members, friends and residents from Nyeri County who gathered to pay tribute to the late Annah Ndung’u and support the family of the former legislator.

Kanini Kega, who previously served as the Kieni MP and later played key roles in national politics, received messages of support from leaders who described his mother as a strong and respected figure in the community.

Speakers at the event called for unity and compassion among leaders despite political differences.

The presence of members associated with the Linda Mwananchi team also highlighted the continued political engagements among opposition-allied leaders, even during social and community events.

Observers noted that such appearances continue to shape political conversations ahead of future national debates and alignments.

Sifuna has in recent months maintained an active public schedule involving political rallies, community engagements and national governance discussions.

His appearance in Nyeri County comes at a time when political leaders are increasingly reaching out to communities outside their traditional support bases.
